How to Personalise Your Wedding Menu

When it comes to planning your wedding, the food is a big one. It’s one of the things guests remember most and it’s one of the easiest ways to make your day feel like you.

Couples are moving away from set menus and are looking for something a bit more personal. By creating a personal menu with your caterer that reflects you as a couple, it’s a great way to add another layer of storytelling to your special day.

The good news is, it doesn’t need to be complicated.

Start with what you actually like

It sounds simple, but it’s the best place to start.

Think about the food that actually means something to you both. That could be what you had on your first date, dishes from places you’ve travelled together, or food that reflects your heritage or family traditions.

For some couples, it’s as simple as including a favourite meal. For others, it might be bringing in a few different influences that tell a bit of your story.

What you definitely don’t want

After you’ve decided on the things you love, think about the stuff you really don’t.

Are there dishes you’ve tried and hated? Flavours that you dislike? Or maybe certain wedding-food clichés that just don’t feel like you as a couple?

Being honest about what to avoid is just as important as knowing what to include. It stops your menu from feeling generic and makes sure the food on your big day actually excites you- not just your guests!

Think about how you want it to feel

The way your food is served can really shape the vibe of the day. A formal three course meal works well in a big stately home with elegant dining rooms. Something more relaxed — like sharing boards, grazing tables and interactive food stations may suits a barn, marquee, or other laid-back venues.

Think about the kind of atmosphere you want and how your venue fits into that. Your menu should complement the space and the way your day flows, not feel like it’s working against it.

Add something a bit fun

Canapés are a fantastic way to kick things off creatively. Canapés are bite sized flavour explosions that get guests talking and tasting, whilst they mingle. They’re perfect for adding personality to your menu and letting people try a few different flavours.

Dessert is another opportunity to get creative. You could serve a trio of desserts, a dessert grazing table, or petit fours (basically dessert canapés!) small, beautiful treats that keep the sweet tooth happy and add a bit of wow factor.

 Make sure everyone’s looked after

One of the most important personalisations you need to make is catering for dietary requirements.

It’s not just about allergies or preferences, it’s about making sure every guest can enjoy the food. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or anything else, these options should be treated with the same care and attention as the rest of your menu so no one feels left out. The right caterer will be able to seamlessly incorporate this into the wedding menu with no fuss.
